Leo

Health & healing for Leo season and placements

As the sun enters its home and ruling sign of Leo, we are fueled by the desire to express our authentic selves to the world and those we love. We are encouraged to unabashedly step into the spotlight and share our unique gifts and talents. This time allows us to tap into the childlike energy of Leo, gleefully putting on a show for our family in the living room. When we expose our inner light without fear but with pride, we are able to step into our purpose and attract opportunities that align with our highest good. However, we must remember that we share these bits of ourselves to spread love and joy or to creatively express our thoughts and emotions in a healthy way, not to gain recognition or receive validation from others. When we become too preoccupied with the approval of others, we actually harm our self-confidence rather than help it. We lose sight of what really matters: showing up honestly for ourselves and being proud of who we truly are.

Leo Body

The Heart

The sun is the heart of the solar system, the life force of all beings. Similarly, the heart is the life force of our body’s anatomical system, providing oxygen and nourishment through the blood. So, it is quite fitting that Leo, ruled by the Sun has dominion over the heart. The job of the heart is to take in blood from the veins that carries cellular waste, carbon dioxide and other chemicals to be cleansed and oxygenated. The concept of “bad” or “dirty” blood versus “good” or “clean” blood feels very relevant to the Leo experience.

The responsible and loyal nature of this placement gives Leo a strong sense of morality, often causing a fixation on being a “good person,” a “good mom,” or a “good husband,” which can be quite detrimental to the Leo psyche. This need for approval can manifest as issues with control, dramatic outbursts to attract attention, or a refusal to slow down and ask for help when overwhelmed. These distressing situations can put unnecessary pressure on the heart, so it is important for those with Leo placements to give themselves grace. When you stop trying so hard to prove yourself to others, you may realize that the only definition of “good” or “bad” that matters is your own. Loving yourself for who you are right here and now, accepting both your faults and your gifts, is the only way to find true happiness.

Leo Posture

5 Pointed Star

Try 5 point star pose when you are looking to connect with the confident and courageous essence of Leo. This pose aligns the spine in the most optimal position, allowing for an unblocked flow of powerful kundalini energy from the base of the spine to the base of the skull. This energy fills us with feelings of strength, autonomy, and purpose. The legs spread wide gives a sense of stability – providing us safety and security. With the arms spread wide, the chest is opened, creating more space for feelings of love, happiness and joy. Feeling secure and loved is how we harness our courage to use it as a force of good in the world.

Here are a few more poses to help build your confidence:

  • Warrior Pose

  • Mountain Pose

  • Tree Pose

  • Crescent Moon Pose

Leo Ritual

At - home ritual to reconnect to the Leo energy within you

The magnetic life force of this sign thrives when it’s freely expressed through art, drama or performance. Combine this with an activity that gets your heart pumping through performative sports such as dance, gymnastics, cheerleading or body building. Make sure to tame the fire in Leos heart with lots of self care and pampering. Consider experiences such as a Korean scalp treatment, manicures with a paraffin hand dip.

Here is a ritual to perform at home to reset your energy and get in touch with the Leo within you:

Scalp Massage

Lions are known for their beautiful manes of hair. To use this Leo essence to our advantage and encourage silky hair growth, start this ritual by massaging your scalp using either your finger tips or a scalp massage tool. Do this for at least 5 minutes or up to 10 minutes. Upgrade this practice by adding a rosemary hair oil to your scalp before massaging.

** DO NOT apply rosemary essential oil directly to your hair or skin. Make sure any rosemary oil used is blended with a carrier oil**

Affirmations

Although the sign of Leo is associated with confidence and courage, the Leo ego can be quite fragile when feeling unseen or criticized. It is important for Leo natives to find security and worth within themselves, instead of seeking that validation from others.

Reciting self love and confidence building affirmations in the mirror (maybe while massaging your scalp) can boost your sense of self and wellbeing.

Along with the affirmation above, try these during your practice:

  • I am my true self and that is powerful.

  • I believe in my unique gifts and talents.

  • I courageously express my vision to the world.

  • I allow my heart to guide me even when it feels vulnerable.

Cold Shower

As a fixed fire sign, Leo has the most concentrated fire energy of all the zodiac signs. This fire can sometimes burn and engulf Leo natives when in excess. A cold shower can effectively cool any excessive heat while improving circulation, boosting the immune system and preserving the bodies natural oils – which promotes healthier skin and hair.

Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

To take your hair care to a new level, by shampooing twice. This double cleanses your scalp and hair. Then massage and apply a deep conditioning hair mask – rinsing with cold water to protect and preserve the hairs natural oils instead of stripping it with heat. Try squeezing the water out of your hair with a tshirt instead of drying it with a towel for smoother results.

Hand Mudra Meditations

As ruler of the hands and heart, mudras can be an effective way to increase focus and concentration while regulating the heart and improving circulation.

Try the Mudra of the Heart during this practice:

  • While sitting or standing, softly stretch your hands out to your sides.

  • With palms facing the ceiling, fold your middle and ring finger in to touch the thumb.

  • Curl your index finger in allowing it to touch the base of the thumb.

  • Allowing the pinky finger to stretch outwards.

  • Hold as long as needed. Try moving your arms and twisting them in different directions to get a new stretch.

Take a Nap

Though committed to shinning their light for all to enjoy, it is important for Leo to conserve some of that generous light, in order to prevent burnout. This means lots of healthy rest. Never underestimate the power of a cat nap.

Leo Journal/Tarot Prompts

As you attune to the creative energy of Leo through embodied practices such as movement and self-care, consider integrating the wisdom of the season through reflective activities like journaling and tarot. Engaging in these thought-provoking practices can aid in navigating spiritual barriers, both mentally and physically, integrating the lessons of the season and encouraging healing for personal growth.

Consider these prompts as you integrate the healing of the season:

  • Where in my life can I bring more of my childlike innocence?

  • How can I express myself more fully?

  • How might my pride be getting in the way of my growth?

  • Where can direct my powerful and focused energy this cycle?
